CCP: Fan uproar "disregarded as just some noise", proved "emotionally important"

EVE Online developer CCP CEO Hilmar Petursson admits at first the backlash from their community was "disregarded" as just a vocal minority; as "some noise in the channel".

However the space loving studio learnt that it was "something that was really emotionally important," and reminded them how "really connected" people in EVE Online are.

CCP CEO Hilmar Petursson takes complete responsibility for the downsizing of the EVE Online dev, claiming it's his duty to do what he can to avoid layoffs.

Petursson has been contacted personally by "many CEOs in the industry" looking to help those let go, which is a "great thing to see." Aren't abandoning them.

CCP: Designing subscription titles "a flawed strategy" right now

EVE Online developer CCP comments that the subscription based model is "definitely going away," as big name titles become "heavily microtransaction-based."

The studio doesn't label it the definitive future as these things "also tend to come and go." It's certainly the "current trend" and subs are little match for free play.

CCP laying off 20% of its workforce

Publisher CCP Games has announced that it will be laying off 20% of its workforce, which means roughly 120 of its 600 jobs. This follows the shrinkage of EVE Online's subscriptions by 1M users in the last few months.

CCP offers returning EVE Online players a discount

CCP is offering former EVE Online users a special deal to entice them into returning. The publisher had suffered a membership drain after a series of controversies this past summer, such as outrageous microtransactions.
