CCP reveal Dust 514 cover charge, to "manage the initial launch"

Sorry but CCP's Dust 514 isn't entirely free-to-play, or at least won't be while the EVE Online tie-in finds its feet after the initial exclusive launch on PS3.

Gamers "have to pre-buy credits" to enter the MMO, which is "something like $10-$20". Dust 514 "might go fully free-to-play down the line" but not yet.

CCP have been planning for avatars to leave their ships in EVE Online for years, and now thanks to the Incarna update we get Captain's Quarters.

More "racial variants" of these are on their way says the studio, but so are avatar interactions with one another thanks to "multiplayer establishments".

Developer CCP and the player-run Council of Stellar Management (CSM) have issued joint statements regarding the wave of user unrest in recent weeks.

It all started because of an internal newsletter talking about micro-transactions. CCP affirm there "are no plans" to sell "game breaking items or enhancements".

The microtransaction controversy at EVE Online has caused an exodus of subscribers, which could cost the Iceland-based developer CCP Games $1M in lost revenue. A list of customers who are cancelling their accounts has been published in a Google doc, which is being updated as more users end their subscriptions in protest.
