Far Cry 3 chooses "silent communication" over voice chat "with strangers"

Game designer Dan Berlin of Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 feels that voice communication in multiplayer is a 'failed venture', and that's why co-operative elements 'communicate silently'.

People aren't "sitting together in a room" together for today's multiplayer, so they "can't really talk to each other." Not a lot use voice chat anyway as you get "match-made with strangers".

UbiSoft has released a new five-and-a-half minute gameplay video of the Xbox 360 version of Far Cry 3, showing off plenty of gunplay and vehicle driving, as well as snippets of the plot.

While UbiSoft refuted that the recently released 2012 lineup of games for the publisher was unverified, it seems one of the games on the list, Far Cry 3, will indeed be hitting this year on the 7th September.

[UPDATE: UbiSoft's has stated that the 2012 lineup released to sites is "unverified". According to an UbiSoft rep, "We're thrilled and kind of amused to see this line-up news. It shows that players are anxious to hear about Ubisoft's upcoming releases. This reported line-up is inaccurate. We guarantee you that you'll hear directly from us soon about the amazing variety of games Ubisoft has slated for fiscal year 2012-13."]

Assassin's Creed 3 is the standout item from Ubisoft's allegedly just-announced lineup of 2012 games being released by the publisher, as well as giving the intriguing Far Cry 3 a release window.

There's no specific date for Ubisoft's new Far Cry 3 but a representative apparently let slip to a Spanish gaming site that they're aiming for a late 2012 window.

That would be anytime from October to December next year, which isn't too bad. Far Cry 3 is said to be leaps and bounds (a far cry?) from its predecessors.
