Dead Island: Riptide holds UK number one, COD: Black Ops 2 rises 2nd

Techland's Dead Island: Riptide has managed to keep its rotting grip on the UK chart crown for another week, as Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is nipping at its heels in 2nd place.

Tomb Raider held 3rd for another week, with Injustice: Gods Among Us sliding down 4th, followed by FIFA 13 5th. LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins also held 8th.

Irrational Games' BioShock Infinite has been knocked out of the sky by Superman and co. as Injustice: Gods Among Us has entered the chart in first place. Fire Emblem: Awakening for 3DS came third.

It's been a while since a brawler has managed to take the UK chart throne. Tomb Raider has slinked down fourth, which is followed by MMO Defiance. FIFA 13, Black Ops 2, Luigi's Mansion 2 still in top ten.

UK's boxed sales in March aided by Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite

The month of March for the UK's video game retail market wasn't so bad thanks to Square Enix's Tomb Raider and 2K Games' BioShock Infinite. While it was 1.5% down from 2012, it beat January and February.

In fact revenue was up 4.2% this March compared to last year's, jumping from £67.7m to £70.6m. Tomb Raider was the lead runner selling more than double of BioShock Infinite.

Black Ops 2, Xbox 360 lead US sales in January

The NPD Group has revealed the top selling games for January 2013, which was led by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, continuing its domination of the market.

Furthermore, the Xbox 360 led for the 25th straight month with 281,000 unit sales. Neither Sony nor Nintendo revealed their hardware sales for January, however.

EA Sports' FIFA franchise first to pass £1bn in UK retail market

It has been announced through Chart-Track that the FIFA franchise is the first video game series to collectively attain £1bn at UK retail. It did so spread across 40 released FIFA titles.

FIFA 12 and FIFA 13 alone contributed around £200m to the staggering figure. The second and third top video game grossing properties are Call of Duty and Mario respectively.
