Final Fantasy MMOs back online on March 25

The earthquake and tsunami which had forced Square Enix to shut down the Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV servers to conserve power will be going back online this Friday at 8pm Tokyo time.

Square Enix and the PlayOnline service have switched off their multiplayer server farms in order to save what power they can in Japan following the quakes.

Kojima Productions have also announced Metal Gear Online will be off in Japan as well. Square aren't charging for subscriptions to FFXI and FFXIV in April.

Square Enix profits plummet 76.6%, Kane & Lynch 2 clear million

Publisher Square Enix has reported a huge drop in sales and earnings for the nine months leading to December 31st. Profits fell sharply by 76.6 percent.

The good news is that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 each managed over a million sales during those three quarters.

MMO FFXIV needs 'FFVII's impact'

Newly installed director Naoki Yoshida of Final Fantasy XIV Online reveals in an interview that his favourite in the series is FFVII for its "impact you never forget."

It's that kind of atmosphere that FFXIV needs to survive. Eorzea needs to feel it has 'untold wonder' to be a 'true' Final Fantasy in boss Yoshida-san's eyes.

Square-Enix reports 91% less revenue

Square-Enix is reporting that it expects to have a 91% drop in yearly revenue, thanks to the delay of Deus Ex: Human Revolution to the next fiscal period, and the dreadful performance of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIV.
