File Instructions:: Getting Started

Thank you for your interest in Furcadia! We are really happy to welcome you as a new member of our growing community! Furcadia is free, so there are no charges for downloading the software or playing the game. Eager to get started? Follow these steps!

Step One:

The first step is to download our software. The Furcadia software is currently only available for the Microsoft Windows operating system (all versions). Before downloading, please take the time to read our Terms of Service with care. The page lists twenty important rules, and explains your rights and responsibilities. By downloading our software and using the service, you agree to our User Agreement. Knowing the policies of Furcadia will help you and others to make the journey through Furcadia an enjoyable one.

Step Two:

Open or double-click the Furcadia installation file. The setup program will guide you through the entire installation of the software on your home computer. When the setup utility is finished, you are asked if you wish to launch Furcadia. Select "yes", and the software will connect to the Furcadia service. You'll also have a Furcadia entry in your Programs list, and probably a shortcut on your Windows desktop. Since this is your first visit, you don't have a character yet. The software will prompt you to create a new avatar. Select the species you like best, and play with the colors. It's fun to customize a new character! When you're happy with your choice and tell the game that you're done, you can enter your avatar name, your e-mail address, a personal password and a description. Don't worry, you can change your colors and description later, even your e-mail address! But please type in a valid address, because that's the only way to recover or change your password later on. A tip: Don't use the same words for your name and your password.

Step Three:

The first time in the game is really exciting! Your brand-new avatar arrives in a specially designed Welcome area. Here, you meet Beekin, the friendly Help Dragon. He guides you along the road and gives you helpful information about Furcadia. Just follow the numbers and listen to Beekin. If you don't understand everything, don't worry, we have really good web pages with many answers. There are also volunteer Helpers that will gladly lend you a hand and help you out if you get stuck. If you're lucky, you'll even be greeted by one of our volunteers. They are called Beekins (after the dragon), and you can recognize them by the special symbol in their descriptions and in whispered text. Everyone has one of those badges, even you! But volunteers on duty have a little Beekin symbol in their badge. If you can't find anyone and still need help, try the Help channel. Just type Help and hit the enter key. Someone will answer you. Take your time to explore everything and refer back to our help pages.

Step Four:

When you are done with the in-game tutorial, you're ready to dive into the game world. Beekin, the cute dragon, explained the different areas to you, and how to get there. Hop to an area with your favourite theme, and start making friends. It won't take long to find other players. Feel free to say Hi to them, or just walk around and explore. Furcadia gives you a lot of freedom and you can do whatever you feel like, as long as it doesn't upset other players. If you haven't yet read our Rules and Polices/ToS, please do so now.
