Codemasters confirm GRID 2's track list totalling 82, most in "day & night"

Due at the end of this month is Codemasters' GRID 2 and so now would be a great time to let fans know what tracks they'll be barrelling down. In a rather lengthy post they reveal there are 82 race tracks.

Most are available with day & night cycles, but some are limited to just sunset, or are tied to pre-orders. GRID 2 will be releasing on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC May 28th in the US, 31st in EU.

The trouble with PlayStation 3? It was tough to develop for; to squeeze out the best performance, says senior executive producer Clive Moody from Codemasters. PlayStation 4's architecture is easier.

It's great news for developers, he continued, saying the 'last thing we want is stuff in the way'. Codemasters' GRiD 2 is a current gen racer, confirmed Moody, so PS4 is unlikely.

Codemasters hands over publishing to Namco Bandai

In a new agreement Codemasters will be relinquishing self-publishing as Namco Bandai expands to include the studio's portfolio amongst its label in Europe and Australasia, which includes GRiD 2.

This also covers every forthcoming major release, as the two update their 2010 arrangement which "built a trustworthy relationship" over the years. Codemasters don't want the hassle of costs.

The sequel to Race Driver: GRID will be arriving at the end of May, announces Codemasters. They also unveil a Special Edition that offers "extra content, redeemable via download" for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

There is also a Brands Hatch Edition for UK gamers, including two additional packs: McLaren Racing Pack and Head Start Pack. GRiD 2 features an "entirely distinct and extensive" multiplayer.

Codemasters had immediate plans for a sequel to GRID, but senior games designer Ross Gowing admits their ambitions surpassed what they could accomplish with the hardware at the time.

Five years of platform know-how and improvements to the EGO engine mean GRID 2 can become a reality. Game features must be "absolutely first class" or they're not worth pursuing.
