ArenaNet has eschewed the classic tank/healer/damage trinity of MMOs for Guild Wars 2, and has embraced a multi-class mechanic, which the developer openly admits is inspired by Valve's shooter Team Fortress 2.

ArenaNet has revealed how microtransactions for Guild Wars 2 will be incorporated into the game. The system was revealed in a blog posting by company president Mike O'Brian.

Those who whack down some cash for Guild Wars 2 from April 10th for any edition - Collector's, Deluxe or Standard - get "guaranteed entry" to every beta access weekend to run.

You also get a "three-day head start" before the official launch of the MMO. An exclusive Hero's Band will also be awarded, boosting some stats. NCsoft also outline edition bundles.

ArenaNet has introduced 13 new attributes and 40 traits to help players shape the type of character they want to play. Guild War's original four just wasn't enough for the sequel.

The old system only gave "two offensive styles" but they wanted "at least four" as well as "more diversity of builds" to choose from. New attributes grow with gear.

1M users registered for Guild Wars 2 beta in last 48 hours

ArenaNet has announced that over one million users have applied to be a part of the closed beta for Guild Wars 2. The sign-up period was open for two days from 1PM EST Wednesday, February 22 through to today, 1PM EST.

The beta will start in March, and chosen registrants will be notified by email and required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
