- Plasma -
Created By: FPDream Software - a hobbies/interests group
PLASMA intentionally was going to be stand alone but unfortunately, that's not exactly legal by Valve Software so it is being created as a Half-Life 1 mod.
Plasma is an upcoming Open-Source project for Half-Life 1. This mod is basically what we (I mean FPDream Software when I say 'we') call a "Major HL Improvement", although Plasma has a touch of TC (Total Conversion) in it, it still can be used to create HL based maps. The Source Code is based both on Laurie Cheer's Spirit of Half-Life 1.5a4 and SysOp's HL:Arrangement. Like with SOHL, we're looking forward to make Plasma's OS code a base for people to start their own mods. Most Models, sounds, sprites, etc... have been improved to guarantee 100% pure satisfaction. Unlike Half-Life, Plasma is organized to help modders to have a better feel on the game.
Plasma is a Steam mod (sorry WON users), because with the new features, it is uncompatable with WON (old version of HL).
For offline and/or LAN MP mode, Botman's HPB Bots have been included into Plasma. The old Crap-O-Matic bots have been removed for everyone's sake.
Plasma has compatibility for both MP and SP, which makes it less boring than a game with only one game mode. Both MP and SP have their own interesting features (like Iron-Sight in SP and Character special abilities in MP). In MP, there is 5 types of game play; Normal DM, Teamplay, Race-DM, Ultimate Arena, and Co-op. (Maybe CTF one day too!)
Plasma is an OpenGL mod, which means that Software and Direct3D modes are uncompatable, for Vista users (please read if you are one), we think that the solution for getting our mod to work with their PC's is the same way that the RE:CB team got their mod working, click HERE for details. If anyone has discovered any other way that they can get OpenGL working with HL, please inform me at: rmatt999@gmail.com or send me a PM.
With the fact that I got a new PC and a new Video card, I can get Light Blooming effects to work, as well with detailed textures (which will be added soon).
Related to Sven Co-op, the public can create their own addons for Plasma, they can also add in their own sounds and/or models for NPC's, props, and Weapons. Me and my team is improving an old mod of mine called Quark, and turning it into an addon for Plasma. Quark:Rebirth will be a humorous addon that most people may think is funny.
Plasma is a people-friendly mod, there is a scale which can control what 'Mature Content' level you can handle. For people who vomit at the site of motor oil and/or for younger players, an option for disabling harsh images has been added. Also, for people who can't get enough gore, there has been an intensifier added as well.
Unfortunately, Plasma NOT yet serves compatibility for the original HL maps, however it _may_ in the later releases when I have patience. Also, a few of Half-Life's original weapons have been removed, but to even out with the distress, new weapons have been added.
Along with the many other features that Plasma has, it contains new NPC (Monster) features. AI has been improved a smidge to make the game much more enjoyable. As well, NPC's from other HL mods have been added into Plasma (like from Opposing forces, Sven Co-Op, Paranoia, etc...).
