Here we are again back with Gordon, the G-Man, and friends. It was a long time from when the original Half Life came out until this sequel arrived on the scene, but it was worth it. Boy, was it worth it. What is it about this game that you can't love?
The first thing you see are the graphics. Phenomenal. Just amazing. The ripples of the water. The way the bodies you shoot slowly bump down a chain link fence. It's nigh on incredible. Never has a game seemed to offer so much just for visual delight. And then there is the weapons, the enemies, everything just draws you in. You can run. You can drive an airboat. A car. You remember the head crabs from the original game, but they're so much more - heady in this one! The people you meet all have things to say. Sometimes they're funny, and sometimes they're serious - but the dialog is great no matter who you talk to. Even the guards at the train station are amusing.
This game is a joy to play. Yes it's linear, as many FPS games are, but you feel drawn down the path, rather than pushed down it. And there is so much to do and see along the way, you're totally immersed in the experience. Definitely one of the very best FPS games out there.
