Valve moderators label Half-Life 3 artworks "legit"

Leaked concept artworks for Half-Life 3 from Valve artist Andrea Wicklund are legitimate, say moderators on Steam forums. Others echoed the confirmation that they are indeed real.

The art was created in March of 2008. One moderator wondered if Valve would "officially comment on these pictures?" The album containing the works has since been pulled from the net.

Many gamers have assumed that Valve has abandoned Half-Life 2: Episode 3, the final chapter of the episodic add-ons to the popular shooter. They're now getting a glimpse of what could have been, as four year old concept art have been unveiled by Valvetime.net.

Those of you who were hoping that E3 2012 would be the stage for Valve to announce Half-Life 2: Episode Three or even Half-Life 3, forget it. Valve has announced there will be no new games announced at the celebrated videogame conference in June.

Newell: Innovation must continue with hardware, 'sell it ourselves if we must'

Valve boss Gabe Newell pins hopes on constant innovation, and so if it starts to struggle then they'd consider releasing hardware themselves, despite probably being rubbish at it.

It would be a last resort but a necessary one to "get these kind of projects started" - it's "definitely not the first thought" they have at Valve, but they'd take on the challenge if need be.
