Just Cause dev Avalanche "not releasing any game in 2012"

Sorry but that rumour of Just Cause 3 blowing up another island tyrant next year just isn't true, says creator Christofer Sundberg of Avalanche Studios.

The Swedish developer is "not releasing any game" in the year 2012, although they've got two "huge" projects and 2013 is their destination of choice.

Developer Avalanche, best known for the Just Cause series, has announced that it is opening a new development outpost in New York City, and that it'll be working on a game aimed at the next gen of consoles from Microsoft and Sony, which they feel will be released in 2014.

Sorry but Avalanche Studios can't just get to work on another instalment to Just Cause as "Eidos or Square Enix" are actually the owners of the franchise.

They'd "very much like to do" another one especially with multiplayer features and co-op as that "would be awesome", declared designer Axel Lindberg.

SEGA announce Renegade Ops

Avalanche Studios is developing Renegade Ops and SEGA will publish the co-op shooter. It's military themed and is heading for XBLA, PSN and PC.

It's all about "driving or flying around blowing stuff up" with friends says the studio. It's SEGA's "first new IP on the digital space" said the publisher.

Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche is no fan of DRM, mainly as studio boss Christofer Sundberg is no fan. They let the publishers "fight that battle."

50% of Avalanche staff have "hacker background" he said. It's a "fair approach" to offer them legal work as there's "definitely a lot of talent" to pool.
