Knightshift is a lot of fun. The environment is very pretty. There's a lot of different lands and some huge maps to explore.
The dialogues are simplistic and so are the quests but somehow it's still fun anyway --- possibly because there are so many different enemies and the land is so beautiful.
The biggest criticism is that it's a little slow --- the maps are so big it takes a long time to copmplete the quests. But they're big enough to give you room for a lot of different things. Also, the way that different monsters are immune to certain damage while vulnerable to others -- eg skeletons weak to bash immune to slash; bears strong against crush but weak against pierce - makes it interesting to shop around for different weapons with varying attack values and adds more strategy.
The bottom line is, it's a lot of fun to play the RPG mode. (Haven't tried the RTS). Once a King, always a King, but once a knight isn't enough!
