Yes, I agree. But still, the games have potential. EA has the exclusive LotR Licence, but they are obviously not using it well... EA...

the books are even better than the movie...
the games I am not crazy about
some topics are just not appropriate for making into a video game

It seems a few of you are confusing LotRO MMO with the RTS games based on the franchise.
They are not related, and LotRO is actually one of the top rated MMORPGs currently.

Furthermore on what Orv has said, the MMO of LotR is based on the books, while the first RTS was movie-based (and very enjoyable IMO). The second RTS used the novels as source material, but not as a true gaming blueprint (as with the MMO).

Addit: Be interesting to see how the new "The Hobbit" game fares, as it has nothing to do with Peter Jackson's trilogy. Only movie version is an Adult animated film by Frank Backshi (noted for his own "LotR" film, and "Wizards").

Yes, the MMORPG is indeed based on the novel. It is surprisingly accurate too.
Another observation I can make about LotRO is that the content feels complete and polished, even lovingly crafted.
I play on occasion, though I haven't been in the mood for playing MMORPGs much over this past summer.

Well, still better than before! New stuff, better graphics... Yeah, it doesn't hurt.

Yea there may be newer stuff and better graphics but it mostly depends on how it plays.
