EA reveals Mass Effect 3 preorders well ahead of Mass Effect 2's

Electronic Arts has announced that Mass Effect 3's preorder sales are well ahead of Mass Effect 2's pace, which would seem to indicate that a massive blockbuster is on their hands. This will also be the first time that the series has been released on all three platforms on the same day.

EA's crazy-bonkers marketing campaign of letting copies of BioWare's Mass Effect 3 lift into orbit before plummeting back down to Earth takes place in London this morning.

The gimmick is you get to keep something that's been in space, and play the game early for nothing. Fans can track the launch via GPS. Three US cities have already launched.

During a Reddit chat, BioWare's Jessica Merizan discussed the upcoming Mass Effect 3 release. She discussed how important the romantic options were, as well as hinted at the possibility of a high res texture pack for the PC version.

The first screenshots of the day one "From Ashes" downloadable content for Mass Effect 3 have been leaked, including one image of the new Prothean squadmate.

The DLC will be available for free for those who bought the Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector's Edition. The official description of the content describes states, "Unearth Lost Secrets from the past and recruit recruit a Prothean."

For those of you worried that BioWare sliced off portions of Mass Effect 3 to use as day one downloadable content, fear not. According to executive producer Casey Hudson, BioWare actually worked on the DLC after they were done working on the main game. Instead, they created the DLC while polishing the game and fixing bugs.
