Blizzard succumbs to micro-transactions

Blizzard has finally succumbed to the lure of micro-transactions. Putting two of it's in-game pets up for sale in the Blizzard Store, this marks the first time the company has offered WoW items for sale for real-life currency.

Blizzard has also been raising the prices of game services, such as race changes and transfers...

More Modern Warfare 2 Cutbacks

First the prices go up, then the dedicated servers are dropped, and now this. Infinity War seems to be trying to push the boundaries of fan tolerance to their limits as they revealed yet another cutback for Modern Warfare 2.

The developer has announced that online games of Modern Warfare 2 will only support a maximum of 18 players, bringing it down to par with it's console counter part...

Ubisoft has announced that the first Assassin's Creed: Lineage short movie that made its debut on YouTube on October 27, 2009, was the most watched video on YouTube with over 1.7 million views worldwide in a period of 24 hours.

Codemasters announces first DLC for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Codemasters have told Strategy Informer that it will release the first Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising downloadable content for the PC tomorrow, with a patch update planned too. This DLC will also be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3, but PC users will be the only ones getting it for free.

Hugely known Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer has given his full thumbs up to videogames as a legitimate art form, "absolutely".

Movies and theatre have "found their own place" as art, and so has videogaming. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 his first game project.

Cyberpunk sci-fi author Richard Morgan has signed with publisher EA to pen a script "for a particular game" already in the pipeline he reveals.

The Altered Carbon author also lets slip, without violating his NDA, that he's to "consult on three" different games. Crysis 2 is a possibility.

The cancelled singleplayer project 'Shadowrun: The Awakening' from ex-developer FASA has had some footage leak onto the Internet.

This reboot was ditched in favour of the multiplayer-only release in '07. FASA Studios was developing The Awakening for Xbox 360 and PC.

Funcom lands quarter of a million grant, will aid Snowboard game

Age of Conan developer Funcom has been granted $260k from the Norsk Film Institutt, to help in the development of a Snowboarding game.

It's the Norwegian government's digital arts division, and they're supporting Funcom's 'On The Edge Of The World'; a free-to-play onliner.

Valve: No glows in L4D2 Realism mode, true challenge to team work

Developer Valve has revealed some of the specifics of the Realism mode in Left 4 Dead 2, saying it's not restricted to Expert or Hard difficulty.

It's more about being "challenged as a team," and to just make things harder to kill is "less interesting," says Valve boss Chet Faliszek.

Infinity Ward's latest Call of Duty instalment is now in the hands of software swashbucklers, almost a week ahead of its official release date.

So far it would appear the illegal trouble is isolated to the Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2. Microsoft has stepped up perma-bans.

Only for this week though, as well as discounting the full Wallace & Gromit season, with donations given to charities for each sale made.

THQ: Early 2010 all about the "core audience", has three titles due

Publisher THQ is excited to see the other side of Christmas because they've got three games releasing in Q1 2010, all for the core.

The recent signing of sci-fi shooter Metro 2033 is "another fantastic addition" to THQ's portfolio, joining Darksiders and MX vs ATV.

In a press release detailing Marvel Entertainments third quarter operating results, release dates for Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America were mentioned, which are all in development by Sega.

Iron Man 2 for April 2010
Thor for May 2011

US retailer GameStop accidentally boasted a pre-order treat for Bad Company 2, blabbing about the PS3 beta starting November 19th.

This promotion was pulled but the Internet has it now. EA are coy but pledge "more details later this week," are to be revealed for fans.

You may not know the man but his work won't be easily forgotten, particularly for gamers. Artist Don Ivan Punchatz gave us Doom.

He was the cover artist for the original shooter of hellish demons. Had Punchatz known it would make "a jillion smackers"...

Publisher Activision has been criticized for the high RRP of Modern Warfare 2, but some retailer deals cut its price by over half its tag.

What's more is that supermarkets in the UK are likely to slash the price deep, with ASDA already having done so with FIFA 10.

Warren Spector, creator of Deus Ex, reveals he hasn't quite moved on from the sci-fi series and even tried to buy it from Eidos.

They wouldn't part with Deus Ex though, with Spector saying there "were and still are" stories he'd "like to tell." Deus Ex 3 in 2010.

Magic: The Gathering - Tactics announced for PS3 and PC

Sony Online Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast today announced that they are developing Magic: The Gathering – Tactics, an online 3D turn-based strategy game for the PC, with a PS3 version coming later.

"The growing Magic: The Gathering community has an insatiable desire for great strategic game experiences. Sony Online Entertainment is the perfect partner to transform the best of Magic's story, strategy and competitive play into a fantastic ‘Tactics’ game experience for current and new Magic fans," said Greg Leeds, president, Wizards of the Coast.
