Rumour: EA Partners label to discontinue, Respawn's project unaffected

Publisher EA is shaking things up and among the casualties list is apparently the EA Partners label which saw third-party developers have their work signed up for distribution through EA's retail channels.

The likes of Crysis, Left 4 Dead, Portal 2, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Bulletstorm and Rock Band all passed through the program, but now it faces the chop in the pursuit of streamlining.

Valve has updated Portal 2 so that now it finally matches console versions for split-screen co-op functionality. This is good science as it means PC gamers can enjoy Big Picture a lot more.

Big Picture is of course Valve's update to Steam so that PCs support being connected to TVs, as they make it easy to play your PC games and use Steam through just a controller.

Valve announces that the Steam Workshop launched this time last year, meaning the community content swap meet is a year old. It began life with Team Fortress 2, adding Skyrim a few months later.

Today over 10k "items, mods, quests," and new worlds are hosted for Bethesda's Skyrim. Then came Portal 2, DOTA 2, Civilization V, Total War: Shogun 2 and a bunch of indie games.

At least one NASA engineering tech is a Portal 2 fan, as one of the panels of the resupply craft had the Space Personalaity Core laser-engraved into it, excited about going into "SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE!"

Valve's business development director Jason Holtman explains how Gabe Newell, his boss, isn't his boss. Yeah, those crazy Valve guys and gals really do work without a dictator.

It's like they share ideas equally or something - oh wait, they do. Holtman says the bossless atmosphere "tends to work" when you resist looking for 'the leader'. "It's totally worth it."
