Strogg Universe is a singleplayer and multiplayer mod for Quake 4. It has 15 New weapons, new maps, and many new gameplay features for singleplayer and multiplayer. Please see the offical page for full details.
In singleplayer, you start as a human marine on your base ship. There you select your starting weapon and launch into your first campaign. Campaigns are chosen randomly. There is a scoring system that carries over with each map and effects the game difficulty. Accomplishing an objective is worth 1000 points, failing an objective causes you to lose 1,000 points. Each Strogg has a point value such as a tactical transfer is worth 10 points. Every two seconds your score decreases a point. There is no more game saving or checkpoints. When you die it's game over, your high score will be saved, and when you restart your score resets. This creates growing tension in an objective based carefree arcade environment. After the first couple missions you will really feel afraid of dying which multiplies with the dark atmosphere. Even though I've been working on and testing this mod for 1.5 years, I will still get nervous after surviving the first several missions.
Later if time permits I would like to make an effective command system where you can use and deploy your squadmates like an extension of yourself, almost like deploying sentries in Team Fortress 2. Vehicles are also being used in a more common fashion and not just for "vehicle maps" anymore. At present vehicles are in multiplayer albeit somewhat nonfunctional.
I've also just finished tediously converting most of the vanilla singleplayer maps to be playable in multiplayer and also to be played with this mod's features in singleplayer. I wanted to be sure that in the first release people had something other than just a couple new maps to play around with in singleplayer.
I am looking for teammates to help develop this mod further if anyone is interested. I'll be taking quite a bit of a break from working on this mod if there aren't enough people interested in it. I do plan to at least release a 12 map singleplayer campaign at some point regardless though. Two of the maps that come in this release (skrell7 and barracks 90) will be in that campaign.
