Richard 'Lord British' Garriott's Shroud of the Avatar RPG on Kickstarter has managed to secure funding. In fact it has tallied over $1.9 million via Kickstarter, and $138,328 through the game's official website. Shroud of the Avatar is a singleplayer RPG and a persistent online world. It can be played offline, as well as operate in three modes online. It's due for release on PC by October 2014.

Recently, Ultima creator Richard Garriott claimed that "most game designers really just suck" but that's not how he exactly meant it, or something. Garriott has offered to clarify what he meant a bit more. His point was that "game design is the hardest" and also "most valuable skill to build" in the industry, and that on the whole "we are not doing so well creating the talent we need" because education is lacking.
