EA Maxis has confirmed rumours that have been screaming for a while; a new SimCity is ready burst into our lives. Now more details are flowing from GDC in San Francisco about it.

It uses the GlassBox engine to power the game which is "revolutionary simulation" tech letting us toy with "individual Sims lives" whilst managing a whole city. Collector's Edition? Of course!

EA confirmed at the Game Developers Conference that SimCity is in development exclusively for the PC and will be released in 2013. It's being developed by Maxis Emeryville.

"We'd like to thank the millions of fans who have helped make SimCity synonymous with the city-building genre. This is a franchise that means the world to us at Maxis and we're happy to be bringing it back home where we are reimagining it for an entirely new generation of players," said Lucy Bradshaw, Senior Vice President of EA's Maxis Label.

Maxis developer Lucy Bradshaw has apparently confirmed to German gaming magazine GameStar that SimCity 5 will be arriving in 2013. The new edition of the iconic city building simulation will feature a brand-new game engine called "Glassbox", and will include multiplayer support, updatable buildings, and nonlinear road patterns.
