Are you using the following recommended game setup: Effects Settings

* Planet:
Detail - Highest
* Ship :
Detail - Highest, Extras - High, Bump - Low
* Building :
Detail - Highest, Extras - High, Bump - Low

Also,

* Show Mesh Team Colors - Off
* Show Cargo Ship Icons - Off
* Show Planet Elevators - Off
