Activision "flattered" by Disney Infinity joining their "toys to life category"

Disney is on the march and they want to muscle in on Activision's gamble with what they call the "toys to life category" of video games and merchandising. Disney wants their own Skylanders success story.

To that end they've come up with Disney Infinity, and so Activision is worried - right? Wrong. The publishing giant is "thrilled by the incredible success" of Skylanders, and "flattered" by copy cats.

Kapow! Activision announces that their crazy idea of blending real world toys with video games is... actually rather profitable. According to NPD data, US retail sales are over half a billion for it.

That includes all the sales for accessory packs and figures. It's the fastest among kids gaming to reach the $500m milestone. In fact they're outselling Beyblades, WWE and Star Wars.

Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has just enjoyed its fifth consecutive week leading the UK all format chart, matching LEGO Batman 2 for number of weeks at the top spot in 2012.

Hitman: Absolution makes a surprising climb to second, while FIFA 13 keeps dribbling third for its sixth consecutive week. Halo 4, Need for Speed and LEGO LOTRO keep their posts.

Xbox 360 leads November US sales, overall sales down

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has announced that according to the November 2012 US NPD sales data, the Xbox 360 was the best-selling console in November with 1.26 million units sold, which Greenberg bragged was “nearly 2x all other consoles” and more than the “Wii U+Wii combined”.

The NPD has revealed the U.S. retail sales of video games for the month of October 2012. NBA 2K13 led the way, while the derided Resident Evil 6 came in second.
