The post-apocalyptic survival series S.T.A.L.K.E.R is the latest to survive the GameSpy server shutdowns, with a new Steam patch moving the multiplayer servers for every incarnation of the series over to developers GSC Gameworld's own.

If you don't own the games on Steam you can manually download the patch, which affects all editions, on the series' official website.

The relationship between a PC gamer and his mouse is a sacred one, which is why the release of Windows 8.1 is causing a virtual nightmare to unfold. Apparently the updated OS has tinkered where it shouldn't.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series looked, for a moment, secured. Publisher bitComposer Entertainment have announced they acquired the license for video game adaptation, but GSC Game World says otherwise.

The post-apocalyptic world lives on as publisher bitComposer Entertainment has acquired the "exclusive worldwide rights" to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. license for all "future video game adaptations".

They're excited to now own the "reputable brand" of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which has sold millions of copies. All other rights for the franchise "remain with the Strugatsky brothers," so no movies.

We've already seen the formation of Vostok Games after the break-up of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC, but it looks like another company is emerging from the stricken studio's ashes.
