Star Citizen hits $9M funding mark
Chris Roberts' massively multiplayer space combat sim Star Citizen may have finished Kickstarter funding a long time ago, but Wing Commander's creator has continued to accept donations on-site since and has added another $7M in funding to hit $9M.

While Star Citizen raised a mere $2.1M on Kickstarter, Chris Roberts' space combat sim Star Citizen continues to raise funds and has passed over $8.1M in total. The game continues to receive funding on the official site.

Star Citizen's Chris Roberts has said how publishers today are "really guessing" as to what gamers want, as they "don't really know." They just bet on what worked yesterday, over and over again.

Chris Roberts, creator of Star Citizen, has enlisted the help of CryEngine 3 to create his game. With a triple-A setup, he decided it would be fruitless to release an expensive console title at this stage of the generation. He also suggests using a traditional publisher wouldn't benefit his product.
