With any major release comes great anxiety that something could go really wrong. Blizzard's just released StarCraft II has launched unscathed.

There are some "known bugs" about but they're very small in number - it's a testament to Blizzard's 'it's done when it's done' studio mantra.

Publishing giant Activision Blizzard has, much like it did with Modern Warfare 2, inflated the recommended retail price (RRP) for PC StarCraft 2.

It's 5 to 10 pounds dearer than any other major PC release in the UK. Retailers have eaten the hike, and are likely a little sore about it as well.

Blizzard have mused that they don't expect players to wait as long for the next two games in the Starcraft II trilogy as they waited for Wings of Liberty.

Starcraft II has been in development since 2003, but has been put on hold several times due to re-allocation of resources and the development team's dogmatic persistence to uphold the idea "it will ship when it's ready".

StarCraft II's Battle.net servers will go online 11pm BST in Europe

Blizzard throws the switch to StarCraft II's EU servers an hour before midnight tonight in the UK, which means a whole extra hour of play time.

Sure, what's an hour? Well it's a lot to those hardcore fans who are tired of having waited many years for StarCraft II to arrive on their desktops.

StarCraft II Beta Test comes to an end, game launches in eight days

The second phase of the StarCraft II beta has ended, which marks the end of the beta test period. The servers will now be prepared for the launch on July 27th.

"We would like to thank everyone who has participated in the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test. You've done an admirable job of testing, and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback you provided during this critical phase of development." said Blizzard on the Battle.net blog.
