Lone Wolf adds new unit types like Tanks and Support units as well as an expanded spellstore allowing 12 spells in Skirmish.
The mod also contains a vast array of new mapping resources such as new terrain textures,props,special emitters and shrubbery to make more unique and visually attractive maps.
WAR is a side project that expands the game by creating new map styles like Survival,Clear the Lands and Colliseum each of these maps creates a new experience in BFME gaming from surviving near endless waves of attackers,to a race to destroy all creeps in your area to battling it out in the colliseum with your favourite hero.
A large number of custom maps are also being made for Lone Wolf recreating new areas of Middle-Earth.
From the cold wasteland of Forochel to the Hot Steppes of Rhun Middle-Earth is now your battlefield.

Each faction is unique with many different strategic options to choose from.
The new factions like the original ones have specialities.

Rhun - is an all rounder faction with good Cavalry and Infantry.
Morgul - a faction that weakens the enemy while strengthening themselves.
Dale - is a faction that focuses mostly on select elite units.
The Deep - are the kings of spam sending out wave after wave of Goblins to overwhelm the enemy.
Harad - great at hit and run tactics and have quite a few units that can harass the enemy,ending with the powerful Mumakil crushing all in it's step.
Erebor - the turtle faction with stronger structures and strong infantry and siege these guys are slow but strong and are really tough late game.
Dol Guldur - A faction that is strong in "forest combat" with various Fell creatures making up it's ranks.
Lorien - fast and adaptive these guys are suited to ranged combat and stealth.
Rivendell - a faction that deals in speed and elven magic they have fast infantry and cavalry with strong heroes and the resourceful Lightbearers.
Arnor - the newest faction consisting of single units instead of hordes they have great stealth and support units using a lot of traps and ambushes.
Mirkwood - A faction with strong Archers backed up with Infantry and strong heroes.
