Author: Team Archasis
Archasis II is the sequel to the Unreal Tournament 2004 Modification, Archasis: Battle for Durian. The original game incorporated team-based control point gameplay into a medieval setting with an RPG style of character progression. The sequel expands upon both the world and basic principles of gameplay in Archasis: Battle for Durian, but also seeks to achieve a new level of combat immersion and artistic direction made possible by the Unreal Engine 3. The following list outlines the key components of Archasis II:
•Objective-oriented team gameplay
•Team-specific character classes
•Per-match character progression
OBJECTIVE-ORIENTED TEAM GAMEPLAY
Archasis II takes place in the midst of a conflict between two factions: the Argent Shield and Ravenhorde. Players choose which faction they wish to fight for, and then work together with other allies to complete a variety of objectives within each mission. In gameplay the need for teamwork is stressed, where a group of individuals are not as effective as a collection of players working together.
TEAM-SPECIFIC CHARACTER CLASSES
The need for teamwork is emphasized by specific roles each player has as denoted by their character class. Each faction has a set of four unique classes for the player to choose from. The look and armament of the classes vary between the two factions, but the function of correlating classes remains consistent.
PER-MATCH CHARACTER PROGRESSION
As battle ensues, players gain experience and level-ups. Accumulating experience improves a character’s physical attributes, as well as periodically grants skill points to distribute among new abilities in a progressive skill tree.
