Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War - Soulstorm, review by herodotus

Ironlore left a bad legacy. This expansion to "Dark Crusade" (for that is what it really amounts to) is an unfinished "rush job". The product obviously had much work left to do on it before release, but with it's Devs going under THQ had to squeeze the product into the shops before the whole project folded. You only have to look at the half-finished Campaign map to realize this. There are actually fewer territories to conquer than DC and your army is represented by a hollow dot (obviously an unfinished item). The races themselves are more expansions of existing ones than new races (the Sisters of Battle are the Religious fanatics of the IG and the Dark Eldar are really just "Chaos" Eldar. The much touted air units are next to useless and are more hover craft than true aircraft as even walls stop them and they are heavily prone to ground all fire. Sure some of these problems can be fixed with patches, which are needed right away, but much content has obviously been omitted and so this would have to rate as the worst Expansion to DoW yet. Enough! They coul;d have at least updated the graphics engine as they did with DC, but unfortunately there is no forward progress with this one and unless you really NEED 9 races, save your cash for a more worthwhile and money-for-value game. c+
