Publisher Arktos Entertainment Group has reported that the zombie apocalypse MMO shooter The War Z attracted over 100,000 registrants for the closed beta in just 24 hours on the 19th July.

The War Z executive producer Sergey Titov wants The War Z to be a realistic, immersive experience where players aren't focused on shooting zombies or people, but exploring the world and surviving as best as possible, while trying to rebuild society in the process.

In general, the zombie apocalypse genre is fairly crowded, with such titles as Left 4 Dead and The Walking Dead. However, one of its subgenre's, the survival shooter MMO, is even more crowded. With the ArmA 2 mod DayZ and the registration for an adaptation of World War Z, Hammerpoint Interactive has unveiled its own title, The War Z.
