Wasteland 2 dev Fargo rips into deteriorating publisher/developer relationship

Wasteland 2 developer Brian Fargo is criticizing what he considers the deteriorating relationships between developers and publishers, which is leading the destruction of the publisher model.

According to Fargo in an interview with Ripten, no dirty laundry is ever aired about the situation because developers fear "they'll never get another contract" if they do. "There is more tension than you can believe. You would not believe the stories you hear about how developers are treated by publishers these days. It is abysmal," Fargo lamented.

Wasteland 2 is about to hit $1.5M in its Kickstarter fundraising, which inExile Entertainment boss Brian Fargo says will allow the developer to port the game to Mac OSX and Linux.

However, don't count on seeing the game coming to Xbox Live Arcade or PlayStation Network, as Fargo says that there is no plan to bring the game to console.

Brian Fargo has revealed that Wasteland 2 is being developed as if there will be no voice acting at all, even if it is added later in development.

This has come in response to some fans who are worried that voice acting will limit the design of the game.

It didn't take long for Brian Fargo's development house inExile Entertainment to reach the $900,000 goal to fund Wasteland 2, via the Kickstarter fundraising service, but the game won't be seeing the light of day til October 2013.

It's done! Brian Fargo's inXile Entertainment can begin work on Wasteland 2 once the Kickstarter project comes to a close as it's raised the needed $900k to begin work in just 2 days.

As of now it's hovering at $975,463 from 16,933 backers. It launched March 13th to get community backing for a direct sequel to 1988's Wasteland. It's a "dream" declares Fargo.
