Producer Charles Roven has announced that the planned World of Warcraft movie will begin shooting early next year, with Source Code's Duncan Jones directing the project. Details remain under wraps.

The game-to-film has suffered plenty of setbacks but looks like it finally has a chance at getting on the silver screen. It's believed a 2015 theatrical release is the most likely.

The latest update to World of Warcraft is this week with Patch 5.3. It tweaks a number of things as well as adding all-new stuff like Heroic Scenarios and a continuation of the legendary quest line.

There are also several new mounts like the Enchanted Fey Dragon. Four new scenarios, a new battleground and a new arena await in 5.3. Pandaria now levels up all mining and herbalism.

Free-to-play games aren't some fad, they're getting bigger and now starting to nip at the heels. Xfire has stated, in a recent report, that F2P with micro-transactions are becoming mainstream among gamers.

Xfire runs a free chat and server browser client and has seen their World of Warcraft numbers tumble, while League of Legends rockets upward. The "rapid ascension" of F2P took them by surprise.

2013 first quarter sees 1.3 million less World of Warcraft subscribers

Activision has revealed in their call to investors that the first quarter of 2013 has resulted in 1.3 million less subscriptions to World of Warcraft. Back in 2010 it commanded 12 million subscribers.

Around 8.3 million today continue their subscriptions to Blizzard's MMO champion, which still holds the Guinness World Record for most popular MMO ever. Activision know it's all downhill.
