Wargaming.net is firing up the propellers ready for the World of Warplanes open beta. They announce it will throw the hangar doors open to pilots July 2nd, ending the closed beta sessions in the lead up to release.

The dirty, dirty business of paying to win in free-to-play games is something Wargaming.net can't stomach anymore as they move to drop any real money purchases for items that would 'grant an advantage'.

World of Tanks will be purged of these offending items, and instead embrace what Wargaming.net is calling a "free-to-win" strategy. Basically, real money can only buy cosmetic items... like gold tanks.

Wargaming.net has detailed how they plan on going through two open beta phases and into the full World of Warplanes game release. All previous gains from the closed beta will be 'fully reset'.

This applies to "warplanes, experience, credits and 'test gold'." The studio will be converting experience into tokens, and token into credits as the phases progress. Testers will be rewarded.

Having separate accounts for all those Wargaming.net MMOs is getting to be rather silly, so the studio has launched a brand new "single unified account" system tying them all together with enhanced security.

Logging in with a Wargaming.net account now plugs you into "all other Wargaming-related projects," including partner and fan websites reachable via OpenID authentication. Sounds fancy.
