US videogame sales revealed for September 2012

September's U.S. retail video game sales have been revealed by the NPD. According to the firm, sales have declined 24% year-over-year. Console sales took the biggest hit, down 39% compared to September 2011.

EA Games big cheese Patrick Soderlund, formerly of DICE, has reiterated how critical exploring new IP is for the publisher. While there's nothing announced, "we are absolutely working" on new IP.

New intellectual property is needed "for the creatives" as much as the industry and consumers, says Soderlund. It's crucial they have "something different to think about." EA 'do innovate'.

Battlefield 3 Premium adds 5 new "exclusive Assignments"

DICE has revealed 5 new Assignments have been added through the Battlefield 3 Premium subscription, which are entirely "exclusive" to those who pay. They're "tied to 5 new weapon camos".

One of the Assignments carries 4 objectives with the rest only at 3. The L85A2, LSAT, MTAR, SKS and UMP-45 are the weapons packing new Assignments. These are only for Premium users.

DICE not working on futuristic Battlefield "would love to make it" Poll

Lars Gustavsson of Swedish dev DICE confirms there's no 'Battlefield 2143' in the works at the studio, "but I would love to make it," he said. A lot of people "ran over and wanted to apply" for 2142.

The sci-fi nature of the futuristic Battlefield affords greater "creative freedom" as its not constrained by a "historical and contemporary" setting. The in-development Battlefield 4 is set in modern day.

Sony highlights week of 10th September PS3 releases

Sony has announced their lineup of games for the week of the 10th September, which will include Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and NHL 13 in retail, and the digital release of Battlefield 3 Premium Edition, which comes bundled with a Battlefield Premium account for only $59.99 USD. Considering the Premium comes with all 5 downloadable content packs for free, it's quite a deal; the Premium Edition bundle will be coming to PC and Xbox 360 as well.
