Tripwire "really discouraged" by current state of shooters 'caused by' Call of Duty
John Gibson, president of Tripwire Interactive, has some stark views on Activision's Call of Duty franchise. The Red Orchestra 2 developer feels they have "almost ruined a generation of FPS players."
During Red Orchestra 2's testing, Tripwire got a lot of feedback complaints that it 'wasn't like Call of Duty'. He acknowledges it's "smart business, to a degree," when you 'give away kills'.

Activision Blizzard, feeling they've been 'out-evilled' by EA recently (perhaps), has introduced microtransactions that are now sprinkled throughout Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on Xbox 360.
They're called 'Micro Items' and they seem to be focused on vanity skins, and Activision's Dan Amrich affirms "none of them affect gameplay," but there are "small, specific ways to enhance" online play.

Treyarch has released a new and rather weighty title update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, addressing a multitude of multiplayer issues on both Xbox 360 and PS3. Zombies get a good work over too.
There are just two gameplay balances introduced, and two feature improvements - the rest are all "issues addressed" for online play. The two changelogs are near indistinguishable.
