Square: Going to be "big leap" in graphics, especially for realism

Worldwide technology director Julien Merceron of Square Enix says we'll be witnessing "a big leap in graphics." Games striving for realism will lead the way.

Studios will be leveraging "physically-based" rendering and lighting, he adds. We'll see "way more" difference in realistic games than "cartoony" ones.

Two other new characters will join Final Fantasy XIII-2's Noel

Art director Isamu Kamikokuryo confirms that two other new characters will join the Final Fantasy XIII-2 line-up, which is lead by the fresh faced Noel.

They'll be "main characters" but right now secrecy surrounds them. Some of the original cast from Final Fantasy XIII will be returning for the sequel.

Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama have both revealed some new information about Final Fantasy XIII-2, like "multiple endings" featuring for the first time.

They won't be going into detail until the Tokyo Game Show later this year. Toriyama-san did reveal that Red Dead Redemption has affected their designs.

Final Fantasy V now PSone Classic

On the PlayStation Network right now for PS3 and PSP is Final Fantasy V, joining the PSone Classics ranks, which itself was an update of the SNES original.

We can "discover the early days" of the Final Fantasy franchise. The "all-new CG cinematic sequences" are the PSone remakes from FFV from SNES.

The Final Fantasy XIII-2 team is looking into how they could reward players of the first title, so it's best you keep a tight clutch on that save game file.

What exactly they're thinking of doing is unknown, possibly even still to them at the moment. Just keep that save data in place and erm, 'look surprised'.
