Grand Theft Auto V hits $1B in sales after 72 hours

Grand Theft Auto V was released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this past Tuesday, the 17th September. In just 24 hours, it hit $800M in sales, so it should be no surprise that the game on both console platforms reached $1B just two days later.

Hideo Kojima has revealed the teased torture scenes for Metal Gear Solid 5 are limited to cut scenes and won't be handed over the player as gameplay. His comments come in the wake of GTA V.

If such violence gives "new emotions that are important" then Kojima-san will include them, but actually playing the role is a step too far for him so it's "non-playable."

While Microsoft has had to release a guide to teach gamers how to properly install Grand Theft Auto V from retail disc to the console for those who wanted to run the game digitally, gamers who bought the game from PlayStation Network are having their own set of issues - the game install crashes with an error code 80029564.

Peter Molyneux isn't that impressed by the revenue haul of Grand Theft Auto V, despite it taking in $800 million its first day. It "sounds impressive" but it's not quite as impressive as others.

The 22cans founder is stacking GTA V up against the likes of mobile dev Supercell who is pulling in between $3-5m each day for titles launched a year ago.

So immense is Grand Theft Auto V's launch, in which it took $800 million in 24 hours, that Microsoft's Major Nelson has put together an official guide to installing GTA V's play disc via a USB stick.

Problems arose when gamers installed the play disc alongside the mandatory installation of 8GB. The Xbox 360 console would bottleneck data leading to texture troubles.
