Square Enix Q1 down ¥2bn, "sizable pipeline of content under development" Poll

The first three months of this fiscal year for Square Enix aren't the hottest as they suffer a net loss of ¥2bn, with net sales up just 1.6% year-on-year to ¥24.9bn. Last year Q1 profitted ¥690m.

A weak release schedule was the root of the fiscal trouble. Square reports Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D as being one of the top earners. The rest of this fiscal is loaded.

What has Square Enix got primed for August's Gamescom in Cologne, Germany? A leaked list reveals all, if it proves true. The MMO reboot Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be there.

Also making the rounds will be Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, Final Fantasy VII, Quantum Conundrum and others. They've a "host of highly original content" to treat us with.

It's not a spoiler to reveal that agent 47's handler Diana Burnwood is dead in the game, and Hitman: Absolution director Tore Blystad stated that killing her off was a "tough" decision, but it will have a serious emotional effect on the bald hitman.

Gamers may remember the group of stripper nuns who attempted to assassinate Agent 47 in an earlier trailer for Hitman: Absolution. The group, called "The Saints", gets profiled by the the ICA (International Contract Agency), in the first of a series of videos that will provide in-depth background on the main characters from the game.
