Tomb Raider's Crystal Dynamics enjoyed their time creating the off-shoot 'Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light', but it appears to have been a one-time thing. It was a "great opportunity to explore things".

However, Crystal has just re-established Lara Croft in their reboot which launched yesterday. It's this Lara that they'll be focusing on moving forward after this "brief detour into her origins".

Square Enix has added Crystal Dynamics' Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light to their cloud gaming service CoreOnline, meaning the action platformer is now free-to-play, joining Hitman.

It's the "perfect mix of pick-up-and-play and challenging single player", says Square Enix. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light explores the British icon outside the Tomb Raider series.

Square Enix's house of all things Lara Croft - Crystal Dynamics - has been joined by God of War director Cory Barlog. He'll be involved in a new Tomb Raider project in San Francisco.

There's also a "yet to be announced new title." Barlog was writer/director for God of War 2 and creative director for Chains of Olympus, and steered Ghost of Sparta's narrative.

Crystal Dynamic rebooted the Tomb Raider franchise as Lady Croft was "losing some relevance" to the world, and they wanted her "more approachable".

Lara "became an icon" of sorts and lost her "relatability." They remade her so she "wasn't perfect" as gamers want "a complex hero." Ground is 'fertile' again.

There's a fresh new Tomb Raider feature film in the works at GK Films as they've reportedly been granted film rights from Eidos' parent company Square Enix.

This film reboot to Tomb Raider is expected out in 2013. GK Films want to explore a "young and dynamic" Lara Croft, with speculation high on an origins story.
