Boon: "Unexpected surprise" inbound from NetherRealm Studios

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has twittered that an "unexpected surprise" is due from developer NetherRealm Studios, but it isn't connected to this year's Mortal Kombat.

Answering some barraged questions from fans, Boon also ruled out arcade shooter The Grid. Naturally speculation is real high about an all-new Mortal Kombat instalment.

Warner Interactive president Martin Tremblay has labelled "movie-based games" as part of a 'broken system', and that they "try and distance" from them now.

They keep them separate so the "game stands by itself," like Rocksteady has accomplished with Batman. Warner's game division is still "barely a blip" overall.

Promotional nine-part Web series 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy', directed by Kevin Tancharoen, has awakened Warner Bros. to the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Tancharoen has been tapped to direct the 2013 bound movie, being scribed by his pal Oren Uziel. They "hadn't been actively thinking about" it until Legacy.

A major new update has come to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Mortal Kombat, and the biggest, most welcome fix is the removal of the bug that caused the game to drop out of multiplayer when certain DLC and alternate costumes were selected. Joystiq reports that the costumes now work properly in multiplayer.
