Red Dead a "permanent franchise", says Take-Two CEO

With the original Red Dead Redemption such a critical and commercial success back in 2010, fans have long wondered whether Rockstar's western would eventually come to PC, and indeed when we'd see a sequel announced.

While the former remains something of a mystery, comments from publisher Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick calling Red Dead a “permanent franchise” suggest the latter will eventually happen.

A new next-gen title is in the works and will be released before the current fiscal year ends for Take-Two, with the publisher noting Rockstar Games will account for 45% of their revenue in FY2015.

There's no mention of what it could be except that Xbox One and PS4 releases are likely, with PC hopefully included. It's possibly the long-awaited Agent, once a PS3 exclusive.

According to Microsoft's Windows Compatibility Center, Rockstar's cowboy romp Red Dead Redemption is 'compatible' with Windows 7 and 8. Of course that's actually decided by user votes, says the FAQ.

Odd how users would be voting on compatibility when unreleased, but odder still is the fact Microsoft has it listed at all. Take-Two want Red Dead a major franchise.

During the Q2 2014 earnings call for Take-Two, the company has revealed they have "more than 10 unique" next-gen titles in the works, and that includes "multiple releases" for fiscal 2015. What are they?

CEO Strauss Zelnick continued saying they're "new intellectual properties" as well as from "proven franchises," but no specifics were given. The 2K family is quite large.

Leslie Benzies, president of Rockstar North, hails the accomplishments a studio can achieve in that "last five to ten per cent of work" on a game, which can grant all the difference in the world when it's finished.

Frankly, the "level of perfection" witnessed in the likes of Grand Theft Auto V is "not seen or understood" by the majority of the industry, remarked Benzies.
