DICE "opening up" encounters in Battlefield 4's single player, 'freedom to choose'

Creative director Lars Gustavsson for Battlefield 4 credits the single player portion of Battlefield for leading to the development of 'levolution', which radically alters multiplayer maps and tactics.

DICE have worked hard on the single player campaign in Battlefield 4, "opening up the encounters" to give players freedom to tackle obstacles, instead of being forced into particular routes.

Battlefield 4: Second Assault releases first on Xbox One November 22nd

Xbox One owners will get to download and play the Second Assault expansion for Battlefield 4 the same day it launches, meaning PC and other platforms will be left out in the cold, starving for maps.

Second Assault is DICE's map pack that contains four classic Battlefield 3 maps re-engineered with 'Levolution' in Frostbite 3. It'll be formally unveiled November 1st by the studio.

The great Beta gates for Battlefield 4 have finally swung open for the great unwashed masses, instead of just accommodating first class 'Premium' users. PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 are all invited.

PSN in Europe and the US should be switching on their open beta services in the next few hours. DICE acknowledge known issues with the beta, and are fixing them.

Battlefield 4's multiplayer beta is now underway and DICE has posted the acknowledged issues for all three platforms. They stress they're working on finding solutions and will update when they can.

PC is suffering freezes and crashes with the beta client, as well as some low performances. Video settings aren't always saved after rebooting - oops. Tooltip is visible from 400 metres!?

DICE announce "every game mode" for Battlefield 4

In an official blog post, DICE has announced all the game modes available in Battlefield 4 with two of those featuring in the multiplayer beta. There are two newcomers to the Battlefield online formula.

Obliteration and Defuse are designed for 24-players and 5 vs. 5 respectively. Obliteration has been dubbed the "Battlefield Moments Generator" by the DICE team.
