Square Enix raise fiscal projections thanks to Thief and Tomb Raider sales

While there hasn't been an official report yet, Square Enix has revised up their net sale projection for the fiscal year now passed. It has exceeded their initial expectations, thanks to stronger sales filling coffers.

Strong sales in particular from Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, the MMO 'rebooted'. What helped too was "favorable sales" from Tomb Raider and Thief.

Eidos Montreal release Thief's PC Mantle update tomorrow, March 18th

The PC version of Thief is due its AMD Mantle support update tomorrow from Eidos Montreal, which lets the game use more of the hardware's power bypassing Microsoft's DirectX API should their GPU support it.

So far Mantle has been seen in action with DICE's Battlefield 4, although it's a mixed bag right now. Mantle should theoretically let games enjoy a lot more GPU juice.

Eidos Montreal downsizes after Thief, "we've let 27 people go"

Square Enix confirms that 27 places at Eidos Montreal have been made redundant post launch of Thief, which is what "every major studio has to do sometimes" to retool for future projects. Try to re-house within studio.

They've been in touch with "several studios in Montreal" to host a career day for those laid off. Eidos Montreal continues to work on the transmedia project Deus Ex: Universe.

Thief "not perfect," says producer Stephane Roy

Whilst risking the ire of PR, Thief producer Stephane Roy admits Eidos Montreal's reboot of Thief is "not perfect," but they hope people take away that they "worked very hard to respect" old and new generations.

The team "respect the legacy of this franchise" and Roy feels it shows in how they handled Thief, and the new way these games play. It releases this week for PC and console.

Thief on PC "not a port," Mantle patch due in March

Eidos Montreal's Thief is releasing this week for PC and console, and producer Stephane Roy says that PC gamers are "going to be in love" with their version because it's "not a port," with plenty of options.

Nixxes handled the PC version of Thief, just like they did with Deus Ex and Hitman: Absolution - as well as many other PC titles. AMD's Mantle will be patched in.
