Aliens: Colonial Marines has been super long in development, right? They've been talking about it for ages. Well, actually, it's not been that long. They just talked about it before starting it.

That's a big no-no, admits Gearbox's Brian Burleson. The cat got let out the bag. It's now 2013 bound but the team is "nearing Alpha, and we've already starting polishing," he says.

Aliens: Colonial Marines releases on 12th February, 2013

SEGA and Gearbox Software announced today that Aliens: Colonial Marines will be launched worldwide on 12th February, 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

"I am thrilled to announce the definitive launch date for Aliens: Colonial Marines," said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. "Aliens: Colonial Marines is the culmination of a life-time of inspiration from the films and relentless passion and drive from the exceptionally talented development team behind the scenes."

Pitchford: "Needs to be a good heist game," Heat license "probably expired"

Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford wants a damn good heist game, and even went to the trouble of securing the Heat license to do something about it. It hasn't been touched though.

The Heat name "lends credibility" to it; a heist-based game that's "in-your-face" action. If the deal for the Heat IP had been done earlier then "that's where our attention would have gone."

Pitchford: Aliens: Colonial Marines will favor realistic grittiness over action

Gearbox head Randy Pitchford has revealed in an interview with PlayStation US Blog that the upcoming science fiction shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines will focus on realism and grittiness than arcade action.

When asked by the blog on if the game would favor "grittier and more realistic" gameplay, Pitchford replied, "I would say that the player’s experience for Aliens: Colonial Marines will tend closer to the gritty realism side."
