Battlefield IP now a decade old, over 50 million gamers "served" Poll

The Battlefield series may be on its way to those awkward teen years, but creator DICE is twice the IPs age at 20. General manager Karl Magnus Troedsson is celebrating at GDC Europe today.

Since it debuted the series has "served" over 50 million players, and the studio is "in love" as ever with their "core franchise." A 'Premium Edition' is rumoured to commemorate hitting 10.

Developer DICE were "very unhappy" they couldn't manage PC Battlefield: Bad Company, saying resources were stretched with Frostbite and consoles.

They had set "PC aside a bit too much," said DICE's Karl Magnus Troedsson. It's "extra love" time for PC with Battlefield 3; "strongly believe" in PC.

EA announced at their latest earnings call that DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has now sold "almost 6 million units," which easily beats the original.

They're chuffed it enjoys a metascore of 89 and that it's become a new "stand-alone franchise" for EA to feast on. A Vietnam expansion is due out.
