Publisher THQ is "transitioning its portfolio" away from "kids titles and movie-based" licensing which means two Australia based studios are now closing down.

Blue Tongue Entertainment and THQ Studio Australia are no more. THQ Studio Phoenix meanwhile ends game making but stays open for quality assurance.

The colourful platform game de Blob 2 isn't quite so colourful in the sales chart as it moved "much less" than 75k units it's opening week in the US.

It also failed to dent the UK chart's top 40 last month. THQ enjoyed quiet success with the Wii original, having hit 700k sales by February 2009.

THQ: "3D is not a good fit for every game"

THQ's Core Games VP Danny Bilson says that 3D is not a good fit for every game, and THQ doesn't plan to add 3D support to every game it releases, only for those that'll play well with it.

"My personal opinion is that 3D is a really cool feature for some things. I don't see the whole world going 3D on everything," said Bilson in an interview with Industry Gamers.

THQ today announced that de Blob 2: The Underground, the sequel to the award-winning 2008 sensation, will debut on high definition consoles and in 3D for the first time ever in Spring 2011.

de Blob 2: The Underground features new moves, more friends, free-form painting activities, and is currently in development for the Xbox 360 PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS.
