Syndicate developer Starbreeze Studios says designing video games, at least for them, has moved on from choosing a genre and then filling in the blanks from there - it's the experience.

It's "what kind of game" they want to make which decide "whatever elements" feature in it. Syndicate has to have "top-notch shooting" but doesn't need to compete.

Grand Theft Auto franchise ships over 114m, GTA IV now at 22m

Take-Two head Strauss Zelnick revealed that overall the Grand Theft Auto franchise has shipped a huge 114 million copies to retailers during its lifetime.

Grand Theft Auto IV has cleared 22 million of that grand total. CEO Zelnick also gave away some other key title numbers, although L.A. Noire is missing.

Project RedLime "requires an expansion", reveals Starbreeze

Whatever Starbreeze is cooking with EA's Project RedLime, it just got bigger. It's because they want "creative enhancements" for an "even better game."

It also grew because of "high staff turnover" during the end of 2010. Already the studio say it's their "biggest project" ever. They must "adapt" to market changes.

Starbreeze in "multi-year" UE3 deal

Developer Starbreeze Studios has "entered into a multi-year, studio-wide" licensing deal with Epic Games to use their Unreal Engine 3 technology.

Starbreeze "evaluated several" engine techs and concluded that UE3 "best fits" their needs. It gives their teams "rapid iteration and high productivity".

2K Games reveal The Darkness II

Digital Extremes is developing the sequel to The Darkness, based off the comic book, which follows possessed NYC mobster Jackie Estacado.

The original was made by Starbreeze Studios. It's going to be "one of the most brutally cool games" declares Top Cow's Marc Silvestri. It's out this Fall.
