Blizzard decides against rolling back Diablo 3 servers following gold exploit

The latest update to Diablo III has left some to discover a gold duping exploit, which led to Blizzard suspending the in-game auction houses. The 1.0.8 update adds a number of co-op incentives to the action-RPG.

After some careful deliberation Blizzard decided against rolling back servers as "relatively few players used" the gold duping, and they're "able to successfully identify" exploiters.

Blizzard has posted some musings on their upcoming 1.0.8 update for Diablo 3. The team "really wanted to improve multiplayer co-op." Right now it can feel "easier and more efficient" to go it alone in Sanctuary.

There are as many downsides to co-op as there are advantages, and Blizzard want to address this. 1.0.8 will tackle new social features, direct group buffs and matchmaking tags.

Blizzard hasn't given up hope on bringing Diablo III to consoles. The developer has the game running on this hardware internally, although public release still hangs in the balance.

Diablo III became the first PC game to lead US videogame sales since Starcraft II two years ago, but it wasn't enough to prevent sales from suffering a 28% drop from May 2011 to May 2012, according to the NPD Group. This has been a trend in dipping sales for the past few months, starting with February 2012's 20% drop from February 2011.
