Microsoft has announced the Gears of War franchise has surpassed 19 million lifetime sales. The original game was released on PC and Xbox 360, while the sequels were exclusive to the 360.

Epic Games has announced that the company has hired WB Games Seattle general manager Laura Fryer to take over that role with the company. Fryer owns more than seventeen years experience in the industry, and worked for Microsoft as the executive producer of Gears of War and Gears of War 2.

Cliff Bleszinski wants to see "no disc based games" next-gen

During an AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit, game designer guy Cliff Bleszinski of Epic Games took on the challenge of answering the crazy online world's questions. No discs for next-gen?

Bleszinski would love the next Xbox and PlayStation to skip discs. He also reveals he'd love to make a game about "a lost dog who has to find his way home." Awww. Unlimited funds? A Firefly game.

Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski claims he intended Gears of War to have the same vibe as Band of Brothers and "take it a lot more serious." Epic hadn't made a story-based game for a while though.

As a result Gears of War didn't strike the serious tone Bleszinski envisioned. Moving forward he wants "Christopher Nolan type dialogue" and much less "Tim Burton or Joel Schumacher".

Epic Games hopes that the public masses can see what all the fuss is about regarding the studio's next-generation game engine, Unreal Engine 4, but there's no set date.

It was shown behind closed doors and once an NDA was signed, but it wasn't Epic's decision. The next line of home consoles will "blow us all away," says VP Mark Rein.
