Spencer: Xbox goes as Halo goes
Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer states in an interview with Official Xbox Magazine that a console's flagship characters determine the health of a console, and therefore, how Halo goes, the Xbox goes, and that if Microsoft loses its way with Master Chief, the Xbox will fail.

343 Industries' Frank O'Connor revealed at San Diego ComicCon that the Halo-centric Microsoft Games Studio team were relieved to finally reveal Halo 4.
In fact it has been kept in "relative secrecy" as 343 was creating the latest Master Chief entry for "a couple of years." New Halo novels were unveiled as well.

Microsoft Games Studio boss says Microsoft "lost its way" with the Halo franchise, and from now on, there won't be any anonymous protagonists like Noble Six or The Rookie - it'll be all Master Chief all the time, starting with Halo 4.
