A great titleMedal of Honor Airborne is an excellent title, while it does not reinvent the FPS wheel as we may have hoped, it is a well made and ultimately worthwhile shooter.
The core gameplay is very solid and all the mechanics of the game work well. In particular the titles lean and cover system works exceptionally well and is something I wish more FPS would use, it is superbly executed. Controls can be a bit counter-intuitive at first but playing a bit will aliviate the problem and its gravy in no time. Gameplay wise, the title is not totally free form as some may have expected and you will sometimes have to pursue linear objectives. However, This being said, it still allows you more tactical and manuevering freedom than the vast majority of its console competitors and makes replaying the game fun and interesting. Some have cited hit detection problems in the game, however I would say that these are not as much hit detection as they are an unfortunate side effect of the weapons upgrade system (Which is fun on its own). Problem is the starting weapons are beyond innacurate and so it can give you the impression the hit detection is poor, the fully upgraded weapons are spot on, it's almost a pity they do not start this way, though it makes the game a good deal easier. Graphically the game is superb. Environments are well constructed and packed with detail, the lighting particularly in the night time levels is impressive. Everything has a very worn and real look which adds to the immersion, and texturing is very well done (Check out the cobblestone streets on the first level). Charecter models are similarlly excellent, packing tons of detail into the uniforms and equitment. The AI can sometimes be iffy and charge at you, but more often than not they are intelligent. Running from cover to cover, flanking and falling back if put in a bad spot. Your team mates can be very helpful and I have had them save me on more than one occasion. Sound is great as usual with a sweeping score and loud gunfire. Overall MoH is a very entertaining and worthwhile title, it's got intense gameplay, great graphics and some strong replay value. Though note, historical innacuracies abound. Posted on 12/02/2007 12:20
